Purchased by Blood
“...with Your blood You purchased souls for God from every tribe and language and nation.
You have made us to be Your priests who reign the earth.”
I’ve never given much thought about the blood. Yes, I knew Jesus shed His blood for me and that there’s life
sustaining power in that blood, and I’ve even sung “oh, the blood that gives me strength from day to day,” but
aside from that head knowledge there hasn’t been much connection to the reality of it. I suspect that’s typical
of most Christians.
I don’t know how many blogs are still in me because I have been seriously ill for some time and my energy
level is about kaput, but there’s a new reality, a revelation if you will, that I must share about the blood. After
two days of pumping vitamins and nutrients into my veins and seeing no results, the hospital decided to give
me two blood transfusions because there was no oxygen left in my own blood. It was a long grueling process
during the night as I watched many iv’s dripping into my system along with two bags of blood.
By the next morning the change in my system was like day and night. I had energy. The new blood had
done what it was intended to do and a plethora of things were suddenly better. For the first time in my life
I now realize the importance of the blood. Words from my favorite hymn: “there is a fountain filled with blood
drawn from Emanuel’s veins, and sinners plunged beneath the flood lose all their guilty stains.” Jesus’ blood
shed for us is our lifeline. He is in us and we are in Him. We are of the same blood, completely connected
and flowing in harmony. This blood will never lose its power. Being purchased by His blood has taken on a
new meaning for me. It’s far more than just an expression.
